Many of us here are marvel fans,and recently after the release of the Avengers Infinity War,there were many questions and critics about how and why Thanos was planning to destroy half of the population in the universe.To know this answer,we must actually look back to the origin and powers of each of the infinity stones.

As you already know,the soul stone is considered one of the most powerful stone because it has the power to resurrect any dead person back to life.The soul stone also can capture any souls and manipulate them as the wielder of the stone commands.This extraordinary power gives an upperhand to the wielder to be able to control and resurrect souls as he wishes.

The power stone was originally brought up in the Marvel's Guardian of the Galaxy part 1 where Ronan the Accuser uses the stone to destroy Xander.Thanks to the guardians,he was stopped in his tracks after he was tricked by starlord and killed in the process.Little did we know that Starlord's DNA was not only part human,but part God.This made him to be able to wield the power stone longer than Ronan,thus proving that he is more powerful than Thanos.The power stone has the power to vanquish or destroy planets within a tap so thus making it as deadly as the soul stones.
Time Stone

The Time stone is one of the six infinity stones,the remnant of a singularity that predates the universe.It has the ability to manipulate time,even in places beyond time such as the dark dimension.It was contained inside the eye of Agamotto under the protection of the Master of the Mystic Arts.Due to its immense powers,it cannot be held and used by anyone not powerful enough to withstand it.The time stone also allows the user to reconstruct torn or broken objects.
Space Stone

The space stone was originally contained inside the Tesseract,in Asgard.Befitting its name,the space stone held dominion over the physical stuff of space being able to teleport its user anywhere in the universe.The earliest known people to own this stone were the Asgardians who ensconned the stone within a crystalline containment.In the Norse mythology,the tesseract came to regarded as the jewel of Odin.
Reality Stone

A force of ancient and catastrophic power,the reality stone has the power to transform the entire universe.It was liquified into a dark red fluid called the Aether,by the dark elves.Taken forcefully from the elves by the Asgardians,it was entrusted to the Collector.The mad titan Thanos later retrieved it from the collectors museum,returned to its original stone form and inserted into his infinity gauntlet.
Mind Stone

It was originally wielded by Loki in his scepter who received it as a gift from Thanos for the Chitauri invasion.After the battle of New York,the scepter was confiscated by S.H.I.E.L.D.It was later stolen by members of Hydra who used it to give extraordinary powers for the twins,Wanda and Pietro Maximoff.After Hydra lost in battle,the Avengers recovered the scepter.
